Forklift Truck

Forklift Truck ImageA forklift truck, also known as a lift truck, fork truck, and tow-motor, is a powered industrial machine used to transport large, heavy objects and materials. It has become an essential piece of manufacturing and warehouse equipment since the modern version was created in the 1920’s.

Forklift Operator

A forklift operator is someone who drives and operates a forklift truck. A forklift operator’s primary duty is to safely guide the machine and its forks underneath heavy material, lift them, and transport them. Forklift operation is a specialized profession that requires a specific skillset and all operators need to go through forklift training and maintain a valid forklift certification.

Forklift Training

Forklift TrainingThe OSHA regulates forklift operation in the United States and requires all employers to implement a forklift training program that is geared toward safety in the workplace and that is specific to the vehicles being used and the potential hazards at the site(s) of operation. All operators must complete forklift training and retain a forklift certification based on a employer evaluation.

Training should consist of formal instruction (such as lecture, discussion, video, computer learning), hands-on training (such as demonstrations and exercises performed by trainee) and evaluation. Here you can find more specific information on what content needs to be covered in your Forklift Training Safety Implementation.

Forklift Certification

Forklift Certification TemplateThe OSHA requires each business to provide forklift certification by way of the company’s implemented training program. The certification document should display the name of the operator, the date of the training, the date of the evaluation, and the identity of the person who performed the training and evaluation.

OSHA Forklift Safety

Forklift SafetyWhen it comes to forklifts, the goal of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is to help provide standards and safety measures for forklift operators and forklift operator employers. This is also why the OSHA requires all forklift operators to complete OSHA Forklift Safety Training, as administered by their employer. The OSHA requirements are detailed out in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standards document in section 1910.178.
